Turn off the PC, on purpose or accidentally (as happens with a power failure), and all the contents of RAM are lost. RAM is “volatile” memory, meaning that it only maintains information while it’s receiving power. Prices and availability of products discussed were accurate at time of publication, but are subject to change.

It’s where the operating system (OS) loads when the PC is turned on and booted up, and it’s where applications run and store their information during active processing. In this piece, we’re going to cover random-access memory (RAM), which you can think of as the PC’s short-term memory. There’s the central processing unit (CPU), the graphics processing unit (GPU), memory, storage, display, and various others that are all vital to getting things done with a PC.

Whatever they've done, this thing is a hog and quite frankly they really ought to either figure out how to slim it down or start telling people that teams of 5 people or less require a machine with at least 4GB of ram.Every personal computer is made up of several components that combine to run the applications that make the PC such a useful tool. I have no idea how to limit analysis services, and it seems to want to gobble up everything it I've limited SQL server to only use 650MB through the server properties, but it apparently thinks that's a suggestion as it's currently sitting at 850MB. The machine is staying around 0 (yes zero) MB free, with most of it sucked up into SQL Server, and analysis services. I'm not exactly sure what they changed, but RAM usage sky rocketed.
With 2010 installed, no other changes, our builds now take about 5 to 6 minutes and one the other day took 37! It's a fairly slow machine, but our builds typically finished in about Previously this machine ran tfs 2008 with the build services installed just fine. I have a machine running TFS 2010, and all I can say is that 2GB is not anywhere near enough. Therefore my question remains, based on what feedback did you guys Microsoft decide to change the minimum system requirements from 1GB to 2GB, is there something you know that we don't know and would like to share with us? Don't get me wrong, the cost of RAM is negligable, but you have to look at the Total Cost of Ownership and again this is only a problem for small teams (I guess).

Now if they want to upgrade they need extra RAM. I just believe that a lot of believe installed TFS 2010 Beta 2 and TFS 2010 RC on machines with less than 2GB of RAM after having convinced management to use it for small teams. If the installer would just give you a warning and told you to continue on your own risk, it would not be such a big deal imho. I just wanted to know why it changed because in TFS 2010 RC the system requirements fro small teams was 1GB of RAM and now suddenly it changed to 2GB RAM and to be honest I did not read anywhere about this relatively small change that for small might turn to be a blocking factor because you cannot continue on the Readiness Checks.
No off course that is not the problem, I had already migrated first my testing sandbox running TFS 2010 RC to TFS 2010 RTM before I posted this and then I migrated our TFS 2010 RC server (with 4GB RAM btw) to TFS 2010 RTM.
